RA1 is best for anyone with natural hair between light brown and darkest brown. For other red shades in our Ultra Color range, check out R2 Medium Intense Auburn (Goji Berry) and R3 Light Intense Auburn (Red Hibiscus).

For those who currently have color-treated hair, there are special considerations for the color result you can achieve. Because of this, we do not recommend RA1 for hair that has been colored darker than darkest brown or for predominantly gray hair. Not recommended for predominantly gray hair. Allergy Test
48 hours before each use of the product, complete an allergy alert test, even if you have used hair color products before.

Preparation
Place a towel around your shoulders, remove any jewelry, and put on the gloves. Open the color crème tube and screw the cap back on completely to pierce the tube.

Combine
Squeeze the entire contents of the ampoule and color crème tube into the applicator bottle.

Shake
Shake the mixture for 30 seconds to mix evenly. Break off the tip of the applicator to start applying.

Application Option 1: Full Head
Begin with your roots by using the bottle to separate the hair section by section and applying the colorant.

Apply through the lengths and ends and massage well into your hair to evenly spread the colorant.

Leave the formula on your hair for 30 minutes, or 35 minutes if you have a lot of grays.

Rinse and Condition
Apply water to your hair and gently massage to emulsify the colorant. Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear. Apply the silicone-free conditioner and leave on for 2-3 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly and dry your hair. Style your hair the way you like it and admire your new radiant look.

Nutrisse Ultra Color works great for achieving vibrant shades on naturally dark hair. However, if you have color-treated dark hair and not naturally dark hair, you might not achieve the same reflects.
Will Nutrisse Ultra Color bleach leave my hair brassy?​
Nutrisse Ultra Color PL3 Charcoal Bleach is our most neutralizing bleach ever thanks to the charcoal-infused formula which will give you ultra cool platinum blonde with less brassiness. However, if you are using multiple products to achieve your optimal hair color, your hair could be a little brassy.

Doesn't hold it's color anymore

I have been using this hair dye for over a decade becasue it used to be the only red hair dye you could easily buy at the drug store that didn't fade after 2 weeks. Sadly, they must have reformulated and that is no longer the case. Now I have to look for new hair color again.

I have colored my hair for more than 30 yrs and this is by far my favorite!! Only a salon can beat it!! Have had so many compliments on the shade; always use similar colors but Cherry Flamingo always gets the love . Loyal to to this brand in all areas of hair care. Love love love it!!!!

Hair coloring is a fascinating science! When applying a burgundy shade to naturally black hair, the result is going to look more like a 'tone-on-tone' effect. Because black hair is naturally packed with deep pigments, it is difficult to lighten or lift the rich dark pigments enough to see the vibrant red and burgundy tones. That is why the beautiful burgundy shade is most visible when the light hits it in the sunshine!

Love this color! Never discontinue it please!!

Legitimately my favorite hair color of all time. Naturally medium brown hair and this color gives me the Perfect red. My one issue is it's so hard to find :'( the past few months it hasn't been in any of the stores near me and I can barely even find it online. When I find it I buy at least 2 to 3 boxes at a time and I think I had a breakdown last time I had to dye my hair a different color. Please never stop making this color I will go with it.

My favorite shade! I get SO many compliments from others about it, too. I love that it doesn't fade to copper like a lot of other reds do. Quite frankly, I am lazy and will let my roots grow out a looooong time past due. But even when I haven't colored in a few months I still loved the color

Conditioner not the same and hard to get out.

This color is good but the new conditioner container is not great. It’s hard to get the condition out. I used to use raspberry but when the packaging changed recently, the colour was very different and looked more like firy red. This is why I’m now using cherry. I just wished the conditioner didn’t change.

New garnier formula is not good

The R3 light intense auburn was so much better with the old formula so disappointed they changed it to this new ultra whatever color it’s too red not even a light auburn looking color Anymore use the old R3 for years and now I had no choice but to switch and look for my old R3 in different brands sooooo far it’s going on a year and still can’t find anything close to there old brand colors so I OFFICIALLY GIVE UP ON GARNIER BRAND after trying multiple different of there now new formula colors it’s a bummer they had the formula so well and they changed it on us it’s not even remotely close to the colors it was before there so ugly now

          • A: Hello kandy72727. Great question! The R3 - Light Intense Auburn does not have enough lift or pigment to show up on natural black hair. Since dyed hair is even harder to lighten than natural hair, dying your hair another color first will make it even harder to see a lighter red result.
