About This Shade
Garnier Nutrisse shade 362, Darkest Berry Burgundy (Raspberry Jam), is specially formulated with cool tones for a vivid, deep burgundy hair color. It also provides 100% gray coverage.
Is This Shade Right For Me?
Darkest Berry Burgundy is best for anyone with natural hair between light brown and black. If you would like a lighter burgundy shade, try 42 Deep Burgundy (Black Cherry). For a darker burgundy, try BR2 Dark Intense Burgundy (Passionfruit) from Nutrisse Ultra Color. If you would like to try other reflects and tones within the burgundy range, options include Ultra Color BR3 Intense Burgundy (Lotus Berry). Please note that Ultra Color is not designed for 100% gray coverage.
For anyone who currently has color treated hair, there are special considerations for the color result you can achieve. Because of this, we do not recommend shade 362 for hair that has been previously colored shade 30 Darkest Brown (Sweet Cola) or darker. Perfectly natural

I'm a natural redhead and like all redheads as I get older the red in my hair fades. It's heartbreaking to hear people refer to me as blonde when I've been a redhead all my life & loved it! I have looked high & low for a hair color that would just refresh my color, put some red back in my hair and look completely natural. This shade is PERFECT. It does exactly that. I have recently had a hard time finding this color in stores & am praying it's not discontinued. I'll never forgive Garnier if it is lol. It's so hard to find a red that doesn't look purple or crayola red & this is a perfect natural copper. Even in the sun it looks real! If your a redhead who wants to refresh your red hair this is the perfect color to use!

My hair was light blonde so I grabbed this color thinking it would easily make my hair red. Or at least somewhat red instead I got fricken black. Like straight up black with not even a shimmer of red. I’m literally crying I’m so upset right now. I usually use L’Oréal if I don’t go to the salon! Will never use this brand again. Will include picture of the box next to my result.

Disappointed with the new color version (enriched)

I used this Deep Burgundy color (Nutrisse Garnier no. 42) for many years, and I always got numerous compliments. Recently, the formula has changed to enriched color, and I was very disappointed. The scalp around my hairline remains orange for days, and it's really hard to remove it. Also, the hair color is not what I expected. Instead of the cherry color, it is more orange. Please, please, bring back the old color, the way it was was perfect.

the cream color was yellow and dried out. 4th box I purchased. I use this all the time. this is defective. as far as i know dye should be white. I doubt i can return these since they are open. I will never purchase this again. also is just about impossible to find this color in stores.

DIDNT COLOR MY HAIR

i have blonde hair naturally and got bored with my hair color so i decided to change things up and go red. the process was simple and the instructions were easy to read. i followed all directions. i even left it on my hair for longer than instructed after washing it out, i looked in the mirror and i was still BLONDE! i harshly dislike this product because it didnt even work. would not recommend.

Was fantastic until the formula change! Horrible

Have used this color for many years with total satisfaction! Lately something changed aside from the model on the box! It is my understanding that the formula has changed much to my dismay! The new formula dyes my scalp and is not nearly as good as the old formula! I can’t use this product, so I must search for another product unless you resurrect the original formula! If it ain’t broken don’t fix it!

False advertisement - bad formula change

I have been coloring my hair with Garnier for years and this is the first time the color was so far off from what it should be. Change your formula back please!! This color turned out to be a reddish coppery color. Not one bit of purple in it.

Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews until after I bought this. I decided to give it a try anyway. I can live with the results, hence two stars, but this is not what I wanted at all. It is way more orange than I'd like as I don't look good in orange! Buyer beware! As for Garnier, fix this stupid color already or change your box! The color inside is not what is advertised! I am attaching pictures, but the camera doesn't really show what it really looks like. The first picture in the hair is at about 15 minutes. The rest are after.

Disappointed long-time customer

I had used BR3 for literally years! It was a beautiful color and I always got compliments on my hair. People were shocked when I told them that I used a box color from Garnier. Then, all of a sudden, the formula changed and I could never achieve that same quality color. My color used to last for weeks and now, the color was fading after a couple. Horrible decision to change the formula, Garnier. Fast forward to color 66... I was so excited to have possibly found my new color but I was sorely disappointed again. It dyed my hair a deep plum with dark burgundy highlights. This is not the color I wanted... I wanted true red which is why I bought 66. After disappointing results with 2 different colors from Garnier, I'm afraid that I might need to find a replacement for my favorite "go-to" brand. Why oh why did you change the formulas? So many of us loyal customers are not happy.

Disappointed this is not black cherry anymore

So so so surprised and so very unhappy that this has changed colors. The new box did not prepare me at all for how very red my hair is now. I have used this color for over a decade now and I loved it so much. I haven’t bought any other in years but now I suppose I’ll have to start searching for something close unless it changes back.

They ruined a good thing

When they changed the packaging and formula, they ruined it. I had used Color #42 for 20 years and it was the perfect burgundy color. The new formula comes out day-glo orange!

Bleeds for Weeks

I purchased this product when out of town, realizing that I should have recolored prior to leaving home. My regular brand wasn't available in the store, so I tried Nutrissee instead. What a mistake. The color went on without a problem, but I know it wasn't going to be good when the final rinse persisted in draining red after a full 10 minutes of rinsing. 2.5 WEEKS POST COLORING MY TOWEL STILL HAS PINK ON IT WHEN I DRY MY HAIR. This color literally bleeds out in a noticeable way every day. I already have my regular brand waiting for me to return to it this weekend. This doesn't male me happy because I know too much coloring can stress the hair. Having to color again after 3 weeks is super annoying and a little worrisome. It's a shame too, because the initial color was really pretty. It just didn't stay in. I won't be buying again.

Need the true BLACK CHERRY back!!!!!

I used this product for years and got tons of compliments on my hair color. When they changed the formula a while back, I was horrified with the results!!!! At that time I contacted the company and was told they had received several complaints and it would definitely be looked into. I managed to buy six boxes of the "old" formula and that got me through for awhile. I purposely came on this site to see if anything had been done to correct the problem with new formula. Sadly I see the same complaints. I want the old formula back!!!!!! Meanwhile----will any of you gals tell me a brand and color that best matches the old Black Cherry????

Why did you go Vegan we don't care what some people that doesn't want certain things in there hair if we're liking it why change it. The color doesn't stay in your hair when you sweat the hair color runs and my sister used it clumps of hair was all on her hands and your Vegan crap sucks. Go back to permanent hair color. With all these bad reviews you might have a law suit filed.

I was so excited when I saw the color on the front of the box. I should have read the reviews. This turned my hair red. Fire truck red. I'm so disappointed. It's definitely not the purple I thought I was getting.

Orange color not Black Cherry

As stated by MANY here; This is NOT BLACK CHERRY! I have used this color for years! I stopped coloring my hair about a yr ago. I bought this color #42 Black Cherry back in February and it turned my hair ORANGE! Thought I would try again today, but also decided (after mixing it) to do a strand test. Glad I did a test becthis “stuff” turned Terracotta and NOT the fabulous Purple I was expecting. So now that I’ve opened the box and mixed it. I have no way to take it back. So dissatisfied and disappointed in your product and company. Take this color off the shelf or change the color palette on the box! Come in Garnier you’re better than this. !!!!

Why is my hair orange!!

I bought this to renew my burgundy and now my hair is orange!!! Wtf! I’m highly disappointed and now I can’t dye my hair again cause I don’t want to damage it!!

This is a followup review from my previous review, which I was given a reference #37654138 in reply to my review. I spoke with Jackie who stated she has been with the company 25 years and was very satisfied with the discussion we had. She told me that the original color, Black Cherry/Deep Burgundy was restored in new code, and to look for 70Y above 600. The code on the box which resulted in my hair turning orange and my first critical review was 70X407. Well I was ecstatic to know that I could get my Dark Cherry/Deep Burgundy hair color back and searched for the code and found 70Y602. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!!! Still the same orange/copper color just not intense as 70X407, but not the Dark Cherry/Deep Burgundy as diagrammed on box. There's a distinct difference, this is misrepresented incorrectly. I wear a burgundy fleece type jacket and the compliments I receive when I color my hair, is that my hair color matches my jacket exactly. Today, wearing that same jacket, I am so sad to see my orange/copper hair clash against my jacket, it's really pitiful. I am resolved that the original 42 (non vegan formula) is a color of the past and unless Garnier completely abolishes the New Vegan Formula, there are many unhappy customers according to all the reviews. I'm just about afraid to experiment with another shade, knowing the outcome expected does not match description on box. Like I said, I was so thrilled to speak with Jackie, only to be disappointed again.

Drastic incorrect color change from previous uses!

What the heck happened?! Deep Burgundy #42 is my go-to color. I, like other reviewers, regularly get compliments after a fresh color. I'm now a redhead. Good thing it's not a bad look on my but it is RED not my lovely purple. I should have read the reviews but I didn't think I needed to! Does anyone have suggestions for a more accurate "burgundy" color? I've got about 12 weeks to find one :(

New formula is not the same color as original

So upset that they haven’t switched back to their original formula. First time I dyed my hair last year after they changed the formula my hair came out orange. Since then I have been using another brand. I figured after a year & the numerous complaints many people have had about the change to this color, that it’d be safe to try again. I assumed that Garnier would have corrected their error. Boy was I wrong!

If there is a -5 for a rating, that's what this product rates!!! I tried calling the toll free number but it was after hours and tried the website as suggested. I tried the AI chat and no luck there. Finally did a search to look up my product and read all the reviews and I have the same complaint. I am upset at what happened when I colored my hair with DEEP BURGUNDY 42. I was in shock! I got ORANGE! My first thought was this is defective and immediately washed and conditioned my hair to get it out, but too late. I have been using DEEP BURGUNDY 42 for over 10 years to cover gray and have received countless compliments from strangers and my hairdresser. With my complexion, the purple tone was beautiful and I always received compliments with each hair coloring, from strangers, male and female, while walking in grocery store or shopping. Whenever I got a cut, I would color to cover the gray and was always complimented on my color, which I replied I used Nutrisse 42. I keep a stash of NUTRISSE 42 and I have 4 that I can't use. I am so disheartened and sick at this product now. I give it a -5 rating if there is such a rating! I'm glad I read the reviews because it explains it all. What did you do to have so many complaints? I don't give a crap about the VEGAN FORMULA, what was wrong with the old formula? This orange color looks like a pumpkin color, perfect for halloween.

Orange/red, not burgundy

If you want orange hair this is the color for you. I should have known it wasn't going to come out right when I saw the color it turned in the bottle once everything got mixed together. After the orange washed off my scalp my hair turned red. Like Ariel from Little Mermaid, red. Super disappointed with this color.

Sadly disappointed with the color result.

When this color was black cherry I loved it. It turned out a nice purple color that I was in love with. The formula was obviously changed because my hair has zero purple hue. It is red!! If I wanted red I would've purchased red! Very disappointed. It is no where near the color results on the box.

An awful shade of orange.

I was excited to see this color, #42, on me as i expected a dark burgundy because my hair is dark brown. Very disappointed to end up with something that looks like burnt sienna. Nothing like what i expected. I will now have to go to a salon to have this fixed. I will never use these products again.

Why haven't you fixed this yet, Garnier?

It's not red at all. My hair is now a mousey brown. I wish I'd seen all these negative reviews beforehand. What a waste. Now I'm going to have to damage my hair further and try to lighten it. Why haven't you fixed this misleading color advertising yet? These negative reviews are over a year old!

My hair is orange. You changed the whole color not just the "formula". I have been using this color since 2008.
Never has the dye in the bottle been pink...until today. New color boost technology? Sure. I should have trusted my instincts and threw it out.

Why did you change the color?

I used this color for over 10years. I got tons of compliments. They changed the box and the color. It’s awful. It’s orangish. Please bring back the original color formula. The old color was 5 stars!

42 no longer the same and I already contacted company a year ago about this. I've been waiting and hoping that I'd see any indication that the product was returned to its original formula/color. Apparently that has not yet happened.

Love the brand hate that the shade isn't the same

Please bring back the old formula. I've colored my hair that color since 2006 and I don't feel like me with out it. The new formula is way too red for my liking. I've tried most of your burgundy shades and none of them were like the original Black Cherry 42. It was the only one that really had the purple tint in it. I found a brand at Sally's that is closer then what it is now. I honestly love your dye and it's always been amazing on my hair, even keeps my hair healthy over all. I'd give 5 stars if not for the change in color to this shade.

Beyond Disappointing.

If I could rate this as Zero Stars I would have. I have been using this color for years. It was a beautiful deep burgundy color with rich deep cherry undertones. For years I've been stopped in the street, in stores, at work, etc. by sometimes total strangers telling me what a gorgeous color my hair is. Well...not any more. DO NOT PURCHASE unless you want ORANGE hair. This is no exaggeration. Two strikes and you're out. (I thought I got a bad batch so I bought it again with the same horrible results). I called Customer Service and spoke to Melanie who was very helpful and confirmed that they changed the configuration. I'm switching to BR1 & BR2 to regain my signature color back. L'Oreal/Garnier you took an excellent color and ruined it....WHY???

This color is pale and washed out looking!

I normally use a #42 black cherry but your company changed it to this ugly pale color with the same number without alerting your customers of this change! This is a totally different color then the original and have added the expense of having to find another brand to cover it up.
