Update your shopping list with these healthy skin foods and drinks

You know the saying “you are what you eat,” and it’s really true when it comes to food. Food is the building blocks of our body and what we consume will register. You can help your skin look healthier by reducing questionably nutritious foods such as red meat, sugar, dairy and saturated fats. Instead eat these foods as part of a healthy lifestyle. Glowing skin is a short shopping trip away!

1. Citrus Fruits And Leafy Greens

Vitamin C is probably the antioxidant you’re most familiar with. It’s protective and a beautifying agent for your skin. You can find this antioxidant in oranges, lemons, kiwis, spinach and broccoli. Oranges and lemons make great juices and beverages, and spinach and broccoli lend themselves to be used in stir frys or salads.

2. Red Fruits And Vegetables

Lycopene occurs naturally in red fruits such as tomatoes, grapefruit and watermelon. It’s a very helpful antioxidant that can protect surface cells from damage. Try to get your lycopene through salads with tomatoes or making juices with watermelon and grapefruit.

3. Tea

On top of their warming qualities, teas like green tea and oolong have wonderful antioxidant properties and help protect your skin from environmental factors. Drink to hydrate in the morning or to relax in the evening before bed.

4. Dark Chocolate And Red Wine

Don’t feel guilty about having a glass of wine or a piece of dark chocolate —both have great antioxidant qualities. Dark chocolate and red wine are tasty on their own, so nibble on a piece and/or pour yourself a glass.

5. Healthy Fats

Another outstanding ally in the fight against free radicals! Eat nuts, avocados and whole grains to make sure you have a good Vitamin E supply going. Vitamin E has great restorative qualities and can help your skin’s barrier function. Your beloved avocado toast is actually good for you! Also nibble on nuts throughout the day for clean energy and healthy fats.

6. Orange Fruits And Vegetables

Beta-carotene is found in orange fruits and vegetable such as carrots, mangoes, apricots and pumpkin. It helps your skin appear brighter and can also accelerate surface skin renewal. Orange fruits are perfect in smoothies and to eat on their own. Pumpkin makes for great soups.

7. Onion, Garlic And Leeks

When you eat food containing onions, leeks or garlic you’re consuming allium sulphur which is a powerful antioxidant. Garlic, onions and leeks add flavor to many savory dishes, so stock up.
