Old school skin cleansing tips for when you can’t make it to the drugstore

When it comes to skin care it's always exciting to find out about the newest trends and products to hit the market. Of course, we're intrigued by the latest scientific discovery that will revolutionize how our skin looks. And we're suckers for a crazy trend that involves 26 steps because they promise results. However we also seem to lose interest just as quickly. Sometimes the tried and true skin care tips are the best ones because they've withstood the test of time.

So to celebrate all things old-school we came up with a list of skin care tips that are simple and straightforward.  These are the tips that your mom and grandma probably did at home. Hey, they aged gracefully and look beautiful today, and we think they are on to something.

Tip #1 Make Your Own Sugar Scrub

Before the days of fancy dead sea salt available at your local beauty supply store, lots of women made their own scrub. All they had to do was look in their pantry. Brown sugar makes a great easy scrub for your face, just mix it with a little olive oil, honey and lemon, apply to your skin for a few minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water or the best cleanser for your skin type. Super easy to make, in fact the hardest thing would be to not eat the scrub before it hits your skin.

Tip #2 Use Cold Water to Freshen Your Skin

You don't always need the fanciest new peptide complex on the market to tighten your skin and make it look fresh. You know what can give you a whole new glow? Some cold water from your faucet. Splash on your skin a few times and you're good to go.

Tip #3 Use a cold spoon to de-puff eyes

Whether you had a bad night's sleep or stayed out a little too late you don't want undereye bags or dark rings to give you away. There is one easy trick that is such a lifesaver you will always have it ready to go. What is it? Just place a spoon in your fridge and use when needed. It'll de-puff and refresh your delicate undereye area and you will look well-rested and glowing.

Tip #4 Make an avocado mask

One of your favorite foods is also an easy skincare hack. Take a super ripe avocado from your pantry and mash it up as if you were making guacamole (again try your best not to eat it before it hits your face) and apply to clean skin. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes and let the natural antioxidants and monounsaturated fats will make your skin look radiant and hydrated. Don't forget to rinse!
