Smells really bad, and no longer holds well

I used to really like this product, as it held well and smelled good, kind of tropical. But it no longer has the same hold, and it smells TERRIBLE, like stale tobacco. Certainly not what you want your hair smelling like.

The best hair product i have found!!

This easily the best product I have ever tried, and I have tried alot.
Many other products will leave your hair stiff like a rock, or oily and greasy, but this stuff is perfectly in the middle.
It shapes your hair how you want it, and is not too stiff, hard, or crunchy.
it looks dry, like you didn't really care about fixing your hair, but it looks styled like out of a magazine!

My hair is fine, wavy, and difficult to manage. I get caught up in the hype of other products, but always come back to this one....been using for over 10 years. It makes my hair feel fuller and softer. It's not sticky crunchy or greasy...acts like a leave in conditioner with a little control.

Surfer Hair to Smoker Hair

I used to use this product when it was in stores, and then started ordering it online after they stopped selling it in stores. Just recently I've bought one via Amazon, it smelled like it had been sitting in a cigarette smoking warehouse. Sent a message to Garnier, no response. Amazon sent me a replacement, same smell. Sent Garnier another message, again no response. Threw both out. I guess this is the end to Surfer Hair, and now called Smoker Hair.

I've been using surfer hair since its first release years ago. The consistency has changed a bit since it's original release, but it has/is my go-to hair product. I have tried many hair products over the years, but always come back to this one. I feel it really does give you that surfer hair look and texture that you get when you spend the day at the beach. I haven't found that in other "surfer hair" products that make that claim. The hold could be better, but the hold is rated at a 2 on the package, which I think is accurate. The scent is light and pleasant and it gives me a ton of volume and texture when applied to damp hair and then blow dried. I'm writing this review because I'm finding that my stores aren't carrying it anymore and it's a good product. Please bring it back.

The old formula was SO perfect I have never found a product that is as good as it. The new formula is so bad and as soon as you guys switch back to the old formula you will gain me as a customer again

I wear my hair pretty short, & have tried dozens of styling products over the years to keep it neat but not flat. Surfer Hair putty is the best I’ve ever used, by far. Easy, durable, economical, & reliable (predictable) results every time, wet or dry.

This is my favorite hair styling product. I have used this for years. It easily washes out with showering and leaves no residue. The product adds volume to my hair without stickiness and easy to comb! Love it!

What happened?

I've used surfer hair on and off for years, when I have short hair. I love the stuff! It has just the right hold to not feel sticky yet still look good, plus I can run my hands through my hair, no problem. It calms my hair so I don't get static hair, which is a big deal, especially in winter! My only problem? (The reason I can go to 5 stars) What happened to the scent? It used to have this lovely citrisy smell. This most recent purchase, I was very disappointed because it smelled like tobacco or smoke. It smells like an ashtray!! Is this a mistake? Why ruin a good thing????

I’ve tried all of the new products of Fructose and hate to say they kind of suck in regards to hold and non oily feel since you discontinued the Mess maker hold 6. I’m not sure why it was disconnected unless it had proven carcinogens in it?

BEST STYLING I HAVE EVER HAD

Man I started out with a Mousse in 5th grade 1999 that I loved but my Mom didn't want me looking that good so I was stuck with her buying me different spray and general hair gels that left my hair shiny and hard but I didn't know any better. Started using a different brand of paste 7 years ago and thought it was great until I was on vacation in Great Falls, Montana in 2019 I forgot my paste so I bought Garnier Fructis Power Putty Surfer Look. Said only a hold of level 2 so thought it wouldn't hold well BUT I WAS WRONG. It held great and smelled amazing and my hair wasn't shiny or hard just stayed all day exactly how I styled it EVEN AFTER I MESS MY HAIR UP AT THE EMD IF THE DAY TO GET IT OUT IT WILL STILL HOLD AND IS STYLABLE. Disappointed to not find it at the last couple stores I went to but I'm just going to order online until I find a store that carries it as it is a great price and has been the best hair styling products I have ever used. Can't believe the bad reviews on this product I think it is GREAT!!

Best Men's Hair Putty by Far

I've used the old and the new version of this product and both are exceptional, and I have yet to find another product that comes close to Garnier's Putty that holds your hair all day while looking natural. The scent is pleasant, light and clean, and is a big reason i stay away from a lot of other brands that lean toward a heavy cologne deodorant smell. The hold is great and you can decide what your look will be by how much you apply.

Surfer Hair is the best! Great hold, great fragrance, easy to apply, great price. I have no idea why you discontinued it. Mess Maker cakes up too much in my hair and doesn't give the out of the water look that Surfer Hair does. And Fiber Spikes it too liquidy/difficult to apply and makes clumps of hair, not natural looking.

I have been using this product for years now. I use it on my dry curls and it allows them to keep shape and control frizz without weighing them down!! I can’t find it in stores anymore. Please bring this back! I don’t know what I’ll do without it!!

I use this after I flat iron my hair to bring the layers some definition. I like it because a little goes a long way. It is pretty sticky so you have to be careful. I dont use it often but it does the trick and it isnt very expensive.

I've been using surfer hair for years. My two sons started using it in middle school. We all have naturally curly hair and it's the only putty that works for us. I don't like the mess maker or the new curl maker product. Please bring surfer hair back, please!!

I do not have greasy hair!! This Product flatten my hair and made it look greasy. I’ll never use it again!! I don’t know why they discontinued Garnier Fructis Style Surfer Hair Power Putty, 3 Ounce hold 6. Nothing gave my hair beach waves like that product they should definitely bring it back!!! Everything else they’ve come out with after I won’t buy!! Please Garnier bring back the old formula!!!!!

My son (he’s now 6) uses this all the time. It gives his hair a fun texture. When I had shorter hair I loved it as well. The hold it not super strong but it adds a lot of nice texture
