How to know if your skin needs a sheet mask

There are some days when your skin just needs a little extra boost. Whether you’re a skin care devotee or are guilty of occasionally going to bed with your makeup on, you’ll find a use for sheet masks in your routine. They’re an easy way to provide skin with extra moisture. But note, masking isn’t for every day — depending on your skin type, you probably will only mask once or twice a week max — so it’s important to choose the days when you’re going to get the most out of your sheet mask. Here are some of those moments when a mask can do your skin a world of good:

During Winter

As your skin is exposed to the elements during the cold winter months, you may notice it becoming dehydrated, dry, or flaky. A sheet mask formula infused with hyaluronic acid and antioxidants can help strengthen skin’s moisture barrier. It’s a good idea to use products that can help protect skin from those freezing winter winds (not to mention the drying air of the heater) that can contribute to dry skin this time of year.

After a Late Night

Coffee may chase away your drowsiness, but the effects of a late night can be visible such as dark circles, dull/tired looking skin or even puffiness. Spend 15 minutes wearing a cooling, soothing sheet mask (try one formulated with chamomile) to help nourish and revitalize skin and trick your coworkers into thinking you skipped Happy Hour after all. Eye masks, or a smaller mask specifically designed to focus on the eye area, can also help visibly brighten the appearance of eyes.

For A Special Event

If you’re hoping to look your best for an upcoming event, sheet mask can help take your look to the next level. “If your skin is looking dull, time to think about a mask,” says Garnier Consulting Dermatologist Dr. Diane Madfes. “The skin tends to look instantly plumped with hydration, so it’s great to use before a special night out.”

With Your Moisturizing Routine

As Dr. Madfes points out, one key to plump looking skin is daily hydration with a moisturizer formulated with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin. Make sure to follow up your sheet mask with a nourishing moisturizer like Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Gel-Cream to help amplify the mask’s benefits.
