Diy skin care tips for dehydrated skin

If your skin looks parched and feels rough to the touch you may have dehydrated skin. Dehydration can happen to all skin types when your skin doesn’t retain enough moisture. Also the reasons are varied. “Many factors can contribute to skin dehydration,” says Dr. Angelike Galdi, Chief Scientific Advisor of Garnier SkinActive’s skin care labs. “Some examples are a weakened skin barrier, usage of harsh soap, or environmental factors, including temperature, humidity and excessive sun exposure.” Dehydrated skin doesn’t look or feel as good as it should and there are several easy ways to replenish your skin’s lack of moisture. Find out how these three skin care tips can help. Skin care for dehydrated skin doesn’t necessarily mean you need to go out and buy a whole new set of products — you may already have some hydrating ingredients in your pantry.

1. Brown Sugar Scrub

Exfoliation can be very helpful when your skin is dehydrated. Exfoliating can help lift dead skin cells from skin’s surface that can prevent your skin from absorbing hydrating products. Create an easy at home scrub with brown sugar, raw organic honey and a tiny splash of lemon and lightly massage into your skin. Then wash off with your favorite cleanser to reveal soft skin and a fresh surface skin layer. Now that you have sloughed away the dead skin cells from your skin’s surface your skin will be prepped to absorb the hydrating products you apply in your skin care routine.

2. Get Hydrated From The Inside And Lock In Moisture From The Outside

A simple way to hydrate is to monitor and adjust your water intake. If your skin is dehydrated it could be you are not getting enough water. Try to get more hydration by regularly drinking water, herbal teas and natural juices. Another way to get hydration is to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, with the added benefit of getting antioxidants such as Vitamin C, beta-carotene or lycopene in your system.

It’s also easy to lock in extra moisture onto your skin if you apply body lotion or face moisturizer while your skin is still damp. Avoid skin dehydration by not letting the water completely evaporate off your skin after cleansing — aim to apply moisturizer within a minute of stepping out of the shower or washing your face.

3. Mask

A great way to soothe and hydrate skin is to apply a mask and let its nourishing formula soak in for a few minutes and then washing it off with lukewarm water. You don’t need to get a fancy face mask to surge your skin with hydration, you can just look to pantry staples. A simple mix of plain greek yoghurt with a teaspoon of honey can help nourish your skin. A ripe mashed avocado can also be hydrating. The ingredients in the masks have oils and antioxidants that can help your skin attain a healthy-look and give it much needed moisture. Once you wash off the mask follow with a hydrating facial cream and your skin should feel soft and supple.
