Beat dry skin by making these small changes every week

Whether your skin is always dry by nature, or external factors such as cold temperatures and dry air indoors make it retain less moisture, you should always pay extra attention to ensure your skin does not feel itchy and irritable. A few simple tricks can turn dry skin into glowing skin, just follow these steps.

1. Limit Your Hot Water Exposure

Especially in colder climates it can be very appealing to take a long luxurious shower or wash your face with abundant hot water. Unfortunately every time water evaporates off of your skin it takes precious moisture with it, especially if the temperature of the water is high. Limit yourself to shorter water sessions with lukewarm water to prevent your skin from drying out.

2. Moisturize Immediately

Once you step out of the shower, finish washing your face, or rinse your hands, try to put on moisturizer as quickly as possible. When skin is still damp and moisturizer is applied, you will be able to lock in some of the hydration.

3. Don’t Lather Up

Harsh soaps may strip your skin, instead use soap-free or creamy cleansers. Also steer clear of anything deodorized, perfumed or containing alcohol as it will remove natural oils from your skin.

4. Scrub Less

It can be tempting to want to slough away dry skin but be sparing with your use of exfoliators and scrubbing brushes. Your tampering with your skin’s already sensitive and parched epidermis which will likely exacerbate the dryness.

5. Invest in a humidifier

Constantly being around dry air indoors can be detrimental to skin particularly if your skin has a tendency to be dry. A humidifier can ensure that there is moisture in the air which can replenish a dry or flaky epidermis with time.

Dry skin can range from irritating to downright painful and it is important that you take precautions to not remove additional moisture from your skin. With these five small tweaks per week your skin will feel more hydrated, supple and touchable. You’re on your way to healthy-looking skin every day!
