Is Shade 42 (Black Cherry) right for you?
Garnier Nutrisse Deep Burgundy 42 (Black Cherry) is our deepest burgundy shade in our classic Nutrisse range, and it provides 100% gray coverage. This shade is best for anyone with natural hair between light brown and black.

If you prefer a different burgundy shade, check out our Ultra Color range: BR1, BR2, and BR3 that will reflect much more intensely. If Burgundy isn't for you and you would prefer to remain in the dark brown range, there are many shades to choose from including 40, 413, 415, 43, 434, and 452.

*For women with currently color treated hair, there are special considerations for the color result you can achieve. Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what I expected I bought 2 boxes just and was so excited to try it out only to find out that one of the boxes I got was a defect. One one of the application bottles turned burgandy and the other stayed white. And yes I followed the instructions. Now only half of my hair is dark and the other is light!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Color Love the color, It truly is a deep Burgundy and looks great. Did not know what to expect went from a red to a Burgundy and will continue to use this color. Only wish Garnier would come up with a root touch up for the Burgundy colors.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too Dark I wanted a very deep red/burgundy. I usually use a different line but this one was cheaper and the exact same colour...or so I thought. The coulour came out black and no red at all. My natural hair is a light brown so this was quite shocking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Numerous Compliments I have used Nutrisse Nourishing Creme Color #42 , Deep Burgundy (Black Cherry) for at least six years. Yes, it is definitely a purple-burgundy, no doubt about that. I get so many compliments on the color and have given the product name, color formula and color number, plus where to buy it to so many people in those years that I have lost count of how many times I have shared the information. the product leaves my hair very soft and shiny, and the smell while coloring is not as obnoxious as other brands I have used. Color consistency has also been reliable over the years.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not true to swatch I was a bit disappointed that this color turned my hair different shades of brown, black, and red. I do not mind dimension, so I can live with it, but overall the color that turned out was not true to swatch. I love garnier but this is making me want to try a new line.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not burgundy at all. More like grape purple I bought this because I was very excited to be getting the colour I wanted since my previous dye job didn't come out the way I wanted. Followed the directions but the colour of my hair is much much darker than what it should be based on the colours on the box. Will see how it goes. Wish it had come out where people could actually see the colour. It looks way too black.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Turned my hair purple!!! I use only Garnier Nutrisse hair color. It's the only one that doesn't turn my hair to straw. They were out of my 2 regular colors. So I got 42 deep burgundy.y natural color is med brown with some red in the sunlight. This turned my hair black with purple in the sunlight!!! I'm 58 years old and I have purple hair. I look like I'm trying to be a 20 year old, for God sake. I see I'm not the only one this happened to. The color on the box is no where close to being black/purple. Now what do I do? Am I just stuck with it?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Intense Color! This color is not for the faint at heart. This color is deep, rich and absolutely awesome! After about 2 weeks of washes the color is perfect! I've used it over a dozen times and I'd definitely recommend the color if you are looking for a DARK color. On my short hair it comes out almost black, on my longer styles, not quite as dark. Elegant and worth trying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you want a permanent purple color, this is for you! This color comes out purple on my hair and I LOVE it! It fades to a more burgundy color about the time I have to color again. Purple is my favorite color and I love that I can get the effect with a permanent dye. It is a very dark color but when the light shines on it you can see purple. I love, love, love this color!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Definitely not a burgundy color This was my first and last time trying this brand hair color. I followed the directions exactly and the color came out more like a blackish deep purple color. I am very disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Purple Hair I colored my hair and the product did not color all of my hair and it looked more purple than burgundy. It also turned my gray hair pink. This is the first time I have used this color. The other colors work very well.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tolerated The Color, But Not What I Wanted. I was so excited to dye my hair burgundy finally, but then I was pretty disappointed at the result. I used color remover to remove my old black dye from Ion, waited a day and then used this product. When I mixed the dye, it was a really deep, royal purple with no red whatsoever. The product itself was great; it was inexpensive, easy to use and didn't significantly damage my hair. When my hair dried, it was a really, dark purple that only showed up in light and still looked pretty brown. I wanted it to fade out fast, so I got it wet more frequently to try to make it bleed out (it only bled minimally, which is nice if you like your color). After a while, it turned just to a brown with deep violet highlights. I liked the purpleish tone after one or so washes, but was still angry because it wasn't what I was going for. It may work better on other hair than mine, but if you have natural medium brown hair and want a purple tone, then use this. Otherwise, look for a different shade.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Purple nightmare I don't color my hair often, but when I did, I always used Garnier. The box for this color looks like one that I've used in the past. From what I could tell it was one shade darker than what I had used years ago and loved. I wanted to go slightly darker this time around, so I bought this one. My hair was pretty light when I used this, so I was expecting my hair to be similar to that image on the box. I understand that all results are different, but I was still hoping for a dark redish brown. (The definition of Burgundy is "a deep red color, like that of burgundy wine.") What I wound up with was something so dark it was almost black, with purple that would glow under the right lights. It didn't even hold to all of my hair, so I was left with a bad blotchy mess of black, purple, and light redish brown hair on my head. I couldn't go to work like this and so ended up paying for a salon to correct this. Of course, since it turned my light hair almost black, this meant a lightener to strip the color out. Not cheap. I had been so happy with previous colors, but this one has changed my mind about coloring all together. I think I'd rather give in to my natural brown hair with the grays coming in than take the risk of having to go through this again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVE THIS COLOR!!! Goes on easy, not smelly AND THE RESULTING COLOR IS FANTASTIC. At first my hair is very dark, with purple highlights....under incandescent or fluorescent lights; but outside...that's where the magic happens. My hair looks so brilliant and the color is a vivid purple! My hairdresser doesn't believe I do it myself. Then as weeks go by, it lightens to a marvelous fuscia, with dark streaks! I get compliments from EVERYONE. I hope this color, #42, is never discontinued.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I absolutely love the black cherry color! I've used it for years and have received a ton of compliments. I have natural dark brown hair and it dyes perfectly. When I first dye my hair, it almost looks black with a purple tint in the light. My hair dresser cannot believe how pretty my hair looks and feels knowing I use a store bought dye. Even after the color starts fading it turns into a beautiful red tone color.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst hair color EVER! I bought two bottles of the burgundy #62 for darker hair. My hair is dark brown and I was expecting at least a little tint. I wear extensions in my hair and the color was able to lift on my extensions (very little). The color did not take in my natural hair at all! I literally have streaks of burgundy color in my hair! I would think that for hair that actually has follicles, it would lift more than the hair without! I am completely unsatisfied with the result of this product, and now I have to wait about a week before I can change it. I will never use this hair color again! great hair care products, horrible color!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible I am always pleased with Garnier they are my favorite and only hair product I have EVER used. This color is so untoned at places. It gave me such a vibrant bright color at the top like the color on the box but had faded into a brownish color at the middle to bottom. I am so unpleased with this. I am hoping you guys could tell me how to fix this. i followed every instruction on the box as I always do. Ever other hair color I have used with this product I had no problem with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! This is the 2nd time I've used this color. I have to say its now my favorite and go to color now. It makes my dark brown hair absolutely shine and gives it that purple hue without over doing it. I've gotten a lot of compliments and even my hairdresser was impressed with how I colored it. Thank you for such a great product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love/Hate Relationship #42 I am in love with #42 Deep Burgandy. It goes very well with my skintones and leaves my hair feeling very healthy. Unfortunately, my managers aren't that in love with the color as I am and I was told that I can't use it anymore. They don't like the purplish tint I get when I first use it. That is one of the things I love the most about it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not very good. I bought the Deep Burgundy hair dye, and I had my mom put it on. I had bought two bottles just because one bottle is never quite enough. My hair is only shoulder length, so two bottles was a bit much but one wasn't enough. My hair was completely covered, and it took forever to wash out. But when I dried my hair, the roots were extremely bright and the length was still brownish (like you can still see my natural light brown hair color). I am very dissatisfied, especially because I got two bottles and it was more than enough. This was my first time using Garnier, and I probably won't being using it again. It was quite a waste, and I don't know what to do to my hair because its half brown and burgundy. Its going to be 70 dollars to get it color corrected. I am extremely bummed out.
