Removing waterproof mascara can be a tedious process as many removers aren't that effective. There's a lot of harsh rubbing and tugging which is extremely harmful - not to mention irritating - for your eyes.
Luckily there is a product that can eliminate any potential waterproof mascara mishaps. What is it you ask? Micellar cleansing water for waterproof mascara! If you're not familiar we'll give you a complete overview of this product and how you can incorporate it into your beauty routine.
What is micellar water and how does it work?
Micellar water is a water-like, clear liquid that at first glance looks exactly like water. It's a liquid filled with micelles, cleansing droplets that both attract, trap and lift dirt, oil and makeup like a magnet. They are incredibly effective at removing any residue on your face. Micellar water doesn't require rinsing, although some women like to give their skin a light rinse with water once they are done. This step is totally optional. Although it cleans the skin thoroughly, it does so without stripping it of hydration. What also makes micellar water unique is that it can be used on all skin types. It's also particularly good at taking off waterproof mascara and with just a few swipes you'll go from fully made-up eyes to cleansed and ready for bed within a few minutes.
Where was micellar water created? Why have I never heard of it before?
Micellar water is fairly new to the U.S. market, but it's been exceedingly popular in Europe for decades. It was first developed in Paris because the water there was extremely harsh on the skin. Micellar water was developed as a product to act like water on the skin, and as a way for women to cleanse their skin without affecting it negatively. Ask any big name make up artist about what products they use backstage and you're guaranteed to hear micellar water. Many of the biggest names in the business have been “smuggling” it over in large quantities for years.
Why is micellar water so effective with waterproof mascara?
Many waterproof mascara removers have oily formulations, which can take some time to dry and can leave residue. Micellar water can remove waterproof mascara. We recommend Garnier’s All-in-1 Waterproof Make Up Remover, which can effectively remove all traces of eye make up.
Describe my skin care routine with micellar water.
Micellar water is a great product because it's multifunctional, portable and very easy to use. You should incorporate it into your overall skin care regimen particularly when you regularly wear waterproof mascara.
In the morning you can use micellar water to cleanse your skin after a night of sleep. You'll likely have a build up of sweat, oil and skin cells. Pour micellar water onto a cotton ball or pad, then press for a few seconds and gently wipe the cotton across your skin to remove the oil and grime. This should give you a clean canvas for the rest of your routine.
For your evening routine, use micellar water to remove your makeup. Follow the same gesture you used in the AM (pour, press, gently wipe) to remove your makeup, using as many cotton balls or pads as it takes to get your skin clean (typically 3-4 are the magic number). Your eyes should be completely mascara-free at the end, with zero harsh rubbing. Micellar water for waterproof mascara is going to be your new best friend!
