Are You Cleansing With the Right Cleanser?
There are so many cleansers on the market sometimes it’s hard to know which one is right for you. Every single product promises to make your skin more beautiful, blemish-free and glowing, but how do you know which one should actually buy? To help you narrow down your search, we’ve outlined the cleansers by skin type. Find the best cleanser for your needs with our guide.
1. Dry Skin
Your skin is often flaky and tight. Stay away from harsh products, especially ones with alcohol and fragrance, as this will just make your skin drier. Use a gentle, non-lather cleanser and always moisturize after. You may want to use a cleansing milk or lotion-based cleanser with ceramides to aid your delicate skin barrier. Another great product for you is micellar water, which is gentle, yet still thoroughly removes dirt. Also, because dry skin can be flaky try to use a product that lightly exfoliates at least once a week. Through this, dead surface skin cells won’t rob your dry skin of necessary moisture.
2. Combination Skin
You typically get oily and have breakouts in your T-zone area. The rest of your face can be somewhat dry. You will need an effective cleanser but one that isn’t too harsh for your cheeks or the outer edges of your face which produce less oil. There are many cleansers out there especially for combination skin and helpregulate oil in your T-zone and provide hydration to your drier areas. Look for an alcohol-free toner to use on your T-zone if you have any excess oil after cleansing. An oil-free, non-comedogenic moisturizer after cleansing can help hydrate and restore your skin.
3. Sensitive Skin
You have very reactive skin and it can break out easily with many products. It’s also easily affected by the environment and outside influences. You should only wash your face with lukewarm as opposed to hot water. Use a mild, gentle cleanser and avoid alcohol and fragrance. Once you find a product line that agrees with your skin, cleanse your face and apply moisturizer, ideally with SPF if you’re heading outside.
4. Oily Skin
Your skin is perpetually shiny and you are very likely to have breakouts. Cleansing is essential to your skin — try to use a product with salicylic acid to help unclog your pores and then apply an oil-free, non-comedogenic moisturizer. Exfoliating once a week followed by an oil-regulating mask can help give you fresh-looking skin. Use an oil-free moisturizer with SPF for daytime and an oil-regulating product at night.
